Discord's screen share is great when the people you want to watch with are already on your server. The problems show up at the edges. Quality above 720p sits behind a paid server boost. Mobile users get a cropped, lower-quality view. Anyone who isn't already on Discord has to install a client, create an account, and accept an invite to a server before they can even join your call.
If you mostly want to watch a video together, that's a lot of friction. A browser-based watch room cuts every step except the one that actually matters: opening the link.
